It was created in 1968 from four existing municipalities north of Myrtle Beach, and serves as one of the major tourist suburbs along the Grand Strand.
As of the 2010 census, the populace was 13,752, with the Myrtle Beach-North Myrtle Beach-Conway combined statistical region population of 329,449.
North Myrtle Beach is positioned at 33 49 20 N 78 40 52 W (33.822216, -78.680974). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 13.5 square miles (35.0 km ), of which, 13.0 square miles (33.8 km ) of it is territory and 0.5 square miles (1.2 km ) of it (3.48%) is water.
